We made it!

We arrived at the Eastern Social Welfare Society at about 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 31st.  Our initial flight to Chicago was delayed about 40 minutes.  Fortunately, we had enough time to catch our connecting flight to South Korea.  We flew direct from Chicago to Seoul on Korean Air and the flight couldn't have been any better.

After arriving at the agency and after getting our things unpacked, we set out to find some bottled water and to get something to eat.  We're pretty tired since we've been up for more than 26 hours (we did sleep some on the plane). So, we weren't feeling very adventurous.  We found a 7-Eleven near the agency and spotted a chicken place. We picked up some fried chicken and brought it back to the agency's kitchen to eat.  We had a slight scare when we got back to the agency when we discovered the first 2 outside doors were locked.  Luckily, the 3rd door was still open.

The second challenge of the night was to figure out how to get logged into this blog.  This initially was a challenge since half of the screen was in Korean (solved this problem too).

Tomorrow we meet Max for the first time at 10a.m.  So, we'd better get to bed.  Talk with you soon.

  1. Hello Dede and Kurt, Jamie and I thought of you both often yesterday as you travelled around the globe. I am sure our telepathic birthday wishes caught up with Kurt somewhere over the Pacific. Thank goodness that 3rd door was open! Eating fried chicken while leaning against the wall of the Eastern Social Welfare Society could only have evolved into a humorous story many years from now. So glad your trip to Seoul went well and you made it into the building. If my "time change math" is correct, in less than 12 hours you will see Max, yea!
    Love ya, M & J

  2. Yay! I'm glad you're there. Everyone here at GL keeps asking me if I've heard anything, so I'll pass on the news that you arrived safely. SOOO excited for you! :)

  3. I hope you were able to get some rest. I know you had an extremely long day yesterday and it is hard to adjust to the time changes. Only a few more hours until you finally get to meet Max! I can't wait to hear how it goes.

We are counting down the hours and minutes until meeting time! Wish we could be flies on the wall to see the joy! Arlie was excited for the update this morning!

  5. Kurt and Dede,

As I am posting this note you are hopefully getting to meet your son for the very first time! We are all anxiously waiting to hear how it goes. I'm glad to hear that your flight over was fairly uneventful. I'm sure you were a bit stressed when your Chicago flight was delayed though! We can't wait to see your next blog and hopefully you will be able to include a few pictures! We love you!
